what i learnt in uir?
I had gained a good amount of knowledge after going through UIR. The subject taught me how to make search effective and evaluate the search facilities. I also came know about the different types of search facilities available and how to make internet as our research medium. The area i like the most in the subject is the uage of boolean operator to make search effectively.

The website that I had evaluated is www.cancerresearchuk.org .I had evaluated the website based on the principles and find out the strength and weakness of the website. Overall the website is trustful because it is a research institute oriented website. The information given in the site is target for students and researchers. The information on the website is updated and reviewed regularly and each page should have the month in which it was last updated at the bottom of the page.
The contents are arranged in an orderly manner so that it will be easy for the common people understand. There are links to other cancer research oriented website so that we get more information from other websites also. Overall the website is trustable with a a wide variety of information which was very help full to me.

If i had $500
If I had 500 dollars I would buy a Nokia N 73. Now the price for the phone from 450 – 500 dollars. The phone is one of the successful phones in the N Series. I like to buy N73 music edition which is more specific in music. The phone also has many attractive features. There are many other features in the phone. I would like to upgrade the phone software.

Comparison between he search facilities
All the three search facilities have there own advantages and disadvantages. The difference I found in the three search facility is the number of results they give for the search. The most number of search results was given by search engine followed by directory and Meta search engine. There is also difference in the time taken for each search option to display results.
Strengths of each search facilities
Google search engine is more effective in giving more number of results. The results that I get are more relevant to the topic. Google use software’s to go through the data base of website and find out the website with relevant keywords. Meta search engine pass the keyword to different search engines and they do not own there database of web pages. Meta search engines are faster in the sense that the results given are accurate to relevance and are fast. They also show the top result compared to clustered result they get. Yahoo directory also known as subject catalog are arranged in a particular order so that the user can select category and also can search through keywords. Yahoo directory are virtual libraries maintained by information specialist so the information available from the directory are reliable and credible.
Search facility I liked
The best search facility according to my opinion is Google. Google gives more number of results compared to other search options. So if we cannot find sufficient information from one source we can use the other links in the Google to result to get more information. Google also provide advanced search options facility which will auto generate Boolean keyword phrase. This will help to reduce the time of searching by using different keywords. Google also have software’s to go through the databases and find out the most relevant search result. The layout and interface of Google are simple so that it is more user friendly to the user.

Practical 2
The first part of the practical 2 is to find two different type of website based on our research topic. The website is of the category personal and organizational. The personal website is about a person of that particular research topic and the organizational website is about a organization. The personal website that I find out is http://www.depmed.ualberta.ca/dca/ which is about Dr. Evangelos Michelakis , a professor in the department of medicine at University of Alberta. Michelakis has shown that dichloroacetate (DCA) causes regression in several cancers, including lung, breast, and brain tumors. This site accept fund for different cancer researches. The organizational website that I found out is http://www.cancerresearch.org/. This website is about the cancer research institute which is one of the top institutes in cancer immunology. The institute was found in 1953 and had achieved many milestones in cancer immunology. Practical 1
Practical 1 allows us to choose a topic that we are interested to make research. There are many topics related to different fields such as science, history etc. I selected the topic “Development in cancer research”. I had studied a bit about cancer and the causes of cancer during my school days. This increased my keen interest in knowing more about cancer. This is the first part of the practical. The second part of the practical is to find three different sources for the related topic such as form, electronic journal and a website. The most difficulty I faced is to find a discussion forum of the related topic. I decided not to research on a particular type of cancer but on the overall cancer. After that I managed to find an electronic journal and a website about cancer research later on in my research.
